AGORA LIVE Summer Academy

AGORA LIVE Summer Academy

May 27, 2015 Posted by Jason Brooks Education, Education LIVE, High School Ministry, Jr High Ministry, LIVE Summer Academy

WHAT IS LIVE?

Live [lahyv] adjective- being alive; living; alive:

Have you ever heard a rattle in your car engine?  If you have, you probably tried to diagnose the problem or ask for someone’s help who could help diagnose the problem. We are hearing this rattle in the west-side, a consistent clanging that we hear and it must be addressed!  What is the rattle, what is the clanging?  Low academic performance!  While the young men and women we work with are just as capable, just as amazing, and filled with potential; their academic performance is incredibly low.  There are success stories, all is not lost.  However, the majority of our students are struggling unlike other areas of our city.  Click, click, clang, clang, can you hear it?

There are a host of reasons why our students are extremely low performing and have a high drop-out rate.  One of those reasons is parent involvement.  Many parents care, but never achieved academic success themselves and are not equipped to help their children.  Single parent homes increase the lack of attention a student gets.  Extreme poverty rates breed so many obstacles to success from drugs, alcohol, low self esteem, and fewer good examples than the normal community. Click, click, clang, clang, can you hear it?

LIVE is our education and mentoring initiative that will change the academic direction of our students.  By being a LIVE presence with our students we will help change their academic direction.

LIVE will have multiple facets and areas to change not just the short-term but long-term direction of our students.  Our goal will not just be good grades but a healthy academic and professional direction in life.  Our schedule will encompass education, inspiration, and hands on work.

– students lose the whole weeks pay if they miss two days
– students are not able to complete the program if they have 4 absences

How can you get involved?
