AGORA INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
We are so excited that you are considering being a part of our internship program!
AGORA Ministries exists to share the love and hope of Christ in high need areas. We will accomplish our mission by encouraging, empowering, educating, and mentoring “at risk” students and families in our area.
Our internship program is chance for you to learn about Christ, find your purpose, while serving in a inner-city, high need environment in the Westside of San Antonio. You will experience serving in our weekly ministries and you will be learning more about what it is to be a disciple of Christ.
This program is a hands-on leadership experience that will challenge and empower you to run after whatever the Lord might lead you to do. Whether you’re continuing to pursue higher education, entering the workplace, or heading off into local and global missions, you will find yourself better equipped to face the challenges of a world in need of our Lord Jesus.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM COMPONENTS
SERVE
We believe that salvation is an act of grace and there are no works that can bring us salvation. We also believe that if our hearts are given to Christ, if the Spirit of God is in us, we must serve like Jesus did. Our picture of being pleasing to God is Christ Jesus, who the Scriptures say that, “the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” Mark 10:45 The internship program will have many components of serving throughout, following in the lead of our Lord Jesus.
SHARE
We believe the world needs to know our Lord Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him! “And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach to them?” Romans 10:14 It is the call of AGORA Ministries to share the love and hope of Christ in high need areas. This means we must share the gospel at AGORA. You will be asked to part of the day-to-day ministries of AGORA so we may share the gospel. You will be asked to share your testimony and teach things you have learned. You will be challenged to share the gospel corporately and personally.
GROW
We believe that a disciple of our Lord Jesus should grow in His relationship and should not stay the same. We believe in the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. The word sanctification means to “make” “holy”. As we read the Scriptures, spend time in prayer, spend time in areas the allow the Lord to lead us, and run from distractions, we will be made holy by the work of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:14-21 The internship will challenge you to read, learn, pray, ask, seek, and knock so that you may know our Lord Jesus more.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Interns will be a part of each the sections listed below
DISCIPLESHIP CLASSES
Every Friday will be a grow day. You will have book reports, go through a 12 week class from the book Experiencing God, and have various teachers speak on various topics. You will also have times of prayer, intercession, and homework.
WE HAVE 1 REQUIREMENT BEFORE THE INTERNSHIP BEGINS
Read the book, “Is That Really You God?” by Loren Cunningham. We will create a online book report form 1 week before the internship so you can share with us what you learned from the book. We will mail you a copy of the book.
SMALL GROUPS
We believe that it is important to have time set apart for small groups. Each of you will be broken into smaller groups that will meet weekly. You will discuss what each of you are learning during your internship as well as simply hanging out with one another.
ONE-ON-ONE’S
Each intern will have designated one-on-one time with an AGORA staff member. This person will check in on how you are and ask you about life and what you are learning during the internship.
WEEKLY MINISTRIES
Interns will be serving in each of these ministries listed below
HOPE PANTRY is our bi-monthly relationship-based food distribution ministry. Our goal is to provide beyond the physical by building relationships with our families, and Hope Pantry is where it all begins. We share a meal, message, prayer, and at the end we pass out the food. The Hope Pantry takes place every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. Every time we meet, we all help organize the food, pray with each guest, and, at the end, we help pass out the food.
REVOLUTION YOUTH is our weekly junior high and high school ministry. We spend time with our teenagers in a fun, encouraging, safe, and engaging environment. Every Thursday night we sing, play games, and teach them about the gospel.
AGORA KIDS is our children’s ministry. Two weeks out of the month, we do an outreach event in one of our local housing projects: Alazan/Apache Courts, Villa Veramendi, or the Cassiano homes. We spend time gathering and inviting kids to join us for a fun program. The other two Saturdays of the month invest in our “Core Kids.” We spend time investing in a smaller group of kids where we teach character development, life skills and grow deeper in relationships with God and each other. Each event consists of hand movement songs, games, food, fun and most importantly a life relevant lesson that will help develop their character to become the best they can be!
WOMEN’S MINISTRY happens every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month throughout the school year. Our goal is to build deep relationships with these women as well as study God’s word together.
STREET CAMPS/WEEKEND OUTREACHES/DAY OUTREACHES We have the opportunity to host teams for short-term outreaches. Our hope is to see our teams SERVE, SHARE, AND GROW. Our week-long trips happen during Spring Break and Summer Break. We work with weekend teams throughout the Fall and Spring school semesters and do day outreaches on Saturday’s.
EDUCATION AND TUTORING MINISTRIES
The Westside of San Antonio is known for having some of the highest dropout rates in the city and we believe that education and tutoring will bring long term success for our students while also creating an opportunity for a discipleship relationship. Every Tuesday and Thursday we tutor our students at AGORA Cassiano campus. Our 1st goal is to share the love and hope of Christ with our students and our2nd goal is to help our students with their homework and academic success.
